MetGIS LONG RANGE FORECAST API

Weather forecasts for the future

MetGIS long range forecast API

The MetGIS API for long-term weather forecasts (MetGIS Long Range Forecast API) provides global trends for weather developments over the coming months. Technically speaking, this is based on so-called ensemble modeling. Different forecasts (“ensemble members”) are used to compare them with each other. The more ensemble members predict a certain weather situation, the higher the probability of these weather conditions occurring. This makes it possible for MetGIS to recognize trends and provide them to you.

Please note that the MetGIS Long Range Forecast API does not provide accurate weather forecasts for the weather on a specific day. Instead, it provides probabilities that certain weather variables will be above or below average at certain forecast times in the future.

Application examples for the MetGIS long-term forecast API

Agriculture

In the field of digital farming, weather model data from the Long Range Forecast API is used as input for long-term numerical crop growth models.
Agricultural companies can optimize their cultivation planning and crop yield by using such model couplings.

Energy

Plan electricity purchases and sales in the long term by using suitable weather data.

Tourism

As a tour operator, find destinations that are suitable for the planned trip or tour.
MetGIS supports you with information on long-term weather trends.

Logistics and trade

Adapt your supply chains to the expected weather conditions and take long-term weather trends into account when producing and stockpiling.

Winter tourism

Use long-term forecasts to better estimate the required amount of artificial snow production for the coming winter season.

INTEGRATION IS THAT EASY

1.

Send https request with coordinates and API key

2.

Immediately receive JSON file with all weather data for the respective coordinate

3.

Extract weather values for the desired period

SPECIAL BENEFITS FOR DEVELOPERS

Only one API call for all data of a coordinate
No tedious “collecting” of the required data from many different files.

All data in local time (instead of UTC!)
No conversion (time zones, winter/summer time) necessary!
All data is based on the local time of the requested coordinates.

Clear structure and “speaking” names
Separate query for data with daily and monthly resolution.
